Any Uber drivers here?

I am thinking about signing up as a Uber driver to make some extra cash to help expedite my restoration project. My hope is to avoid the drunk partiers and instead get some steady runs to/from Atlanta International Airport, which is near my 'real' job.

I'd like to get a reality check from anyone who is or has been a Uber driver before I sign up. Is this a legit way to make some money?

Thanks

I know a lot of people who drive for Uber, and generally, they have positive things to say. My track coach has been driving for them on the side for about a year and pockets a grand or two a month while a friend of mine quit his job and does it full time and makes much more. I wouldn't recommend doing it full time though just because demand is so volatile, sometimes you might pick up 20 people in a day and sometimes you might pick up 2. You also have to be comfortable with potentially dirty/smelly/unruly people in your car, which I am not, hence I couldn't do it. You definitely can make good side money though.

I would like to know too (hello fellow Atlantan). My worst fear is about it is someone puking in my car, and rings scratching the door handles/door cups. I think I might be too anal about my car for it. I have heard some crazy stories online about women hooking up with their uber driver. Apparently it's a thing now.

I'd be hesitant in terms of investing money in becoming an Uber Driver. From my past few rides, people have become full-time drivers, purchasing Pruis V's and whatnot for the sole purpose of Uber.

That being said, Uber is currently legally in a weird place in with the government in many states. Here in Maryland, the government is working to regulate Uber enough that Uber has already stated they are pulling out of the Maryland Market if all goes as planned.

I doubt Georgia is as 'big government' focused as Maryland, but it's good to see where they currently stand before proceeding.

I'd say seriously avoid anything to do with vomiting passengers.

The requirement for Uber is a 4-door sedan, 2005 or newer, so Miata is NOT the answer. Although, technically, an RX-8, could be.

Hmmm... I might have to start doing this for an hour or two on my way home from work. I wouldn't mind even a few hundred bucks a month on the side to supplement projects around the house

The Uber driver I took from EWR to NYC said that he makes about $1-2k a week driving back and forth between the airport and the city.

2005 or newer? Oh god damn it. Why does every taxi have to be so new? In africa most of the taxis are from the 90's and frankly are kind of awesome.
